Talented mare About Ready will make a comeback from the breeding barn when she resumes in the Listed Wangoom Handicap at Warrnambool.
A winner of six of 19 starts, the More Than Ready six-year-old hasn’t raced since July last year but has an impressive fresh record.
From six first-up runs she has posted three wins and a third and Mick Price has trained her up for a crack at Wednesday’s feature sprint.
“She actually went to stud to be covered by Commands but she had a veterinary accident and couldn’t be served so she’s found her way back to us,” Price said.
Warrnambool is like a second home to About Ready after Colin Chandler pre-trained her on the track before she headed back to Price’s Caulfield stables.
She has since trialled well and Price believes she has a chance after drawing barrier nine.
“There were a few Group options for her but the owners (Tim Dennis and Grant Downey) were keen to see her run first-up in the Wangoom,” Price said.
“Damien Oliver takes the ride and hopefully she can do the job for us.”
About Ready, who is a dual Listed winner at Morphettville of the 2010 Durbridge Stakes (1200m) and the 2010 City Of Marion Stakes, is $17 with TAB Sportsbet with a number of fancied runners drawn to her outside.
Favourite Wealth Princess ($3.80) has barrier 11, Freereturn ($4.80) barrier 12 and Second Effort ($5) barrier 13.
Prince Obama ($35) has slipped into the 16-horse field as the first of four emergencies after the scratching of Shock Value. Fourth emergency Beldara also has been withdrawn.
Trainer Mandy Shillito said Rocking Force was in doubt and she would decide on Wednesday morning if he would run.
“I don’t like the barrier and it looks like it is going to be a wet track,” she said.
“He’s handled a slow track but shown he doesn’t handle heavy track so we will see what the weather does.”
Rain hit Warrnambool late on Tuesday afternoon and showers are forecast for Wednesday.
Shillito said the Group One Goodwood (1200m) in Adelaide on May 12 was still an option for Rocking Force.
